Content Creation as Part of Web Development

In Web Development | on May. 01, 2011 | by | 0 Comments

Content creation is considered as its own area as far as website creation is concerned, but this is far from accurate. It is a job that is spread over different professionals, eliminating the need to form its own department. The rules change when the site in question is huge, and relies on constant content creations to keep the readership happy. In a small work setting, web content development is done by a web developer, if they have little to do, coding in mark-up is done by the web producer, and finally placing of the created content is done by the webmaster, if there is no content manager present. So what is content creation all about?

Content is king, is something often stated by those in the web business. There is a lot of truth to it, considering that the kind of content a website has, is the reason visitors need to be loyal to the site. It is the thing that will absorb their interest, and make them regular visitors to the site, sometimes on a daily basis. Content is what makes a site an authority in its niche, and maintaining that top position is not always hard when the kind of content created is commanding, informative, and highly interesting.

A lot of considerations have to be made when content is being created. For instance, how optimized is it to market the site. Web optimization is all about creating content that is highly likely to be picked up by a search engine. This is done through the use of keywords. These keywords have to be niche specific and well utilized in the site, for it to be favored by search engines. While it is not easy to understand the algorithms that a search engine uses to pick out the top websites, it is believed that web optimization; through the use of SEO is a contributory factor. Content created has to be search engine optimized, but with careful use of keywords, making sure they retain an appropriate number, to avoid spamming, in the case where the keywords are used too abundantly.

Content creators can alternatively be referred to as web developers, when they combine the skill of creative and technical writing, with that of coding. This makes it easier for content managers to incorporate the content into the site if it is already in HTML. Use of WYSIWYG editors is common with many web developers who prefer its use, rather than that of writing mark-up. Sites that have a commanding presence on the internet need professionals with HTML knowledge, as it ensures the best kind of results.

Content creation can be delegated to an outside team, outside, regarding to a company that deals with technical writing, that is outside the team working on the website. Copywriting agencies professionally produce the desired content, based on the instructions given. An agency is contracted on a permanent basis, if the website is in continuous need of new content- more so those websites that publish new material every day.
